Julie Wilson biography

Julie Wilson is one of the Hunter's finest jazz vocalists, performing regularly at festivals and clubs around the Hunter Valley.

In 2002 Julie received two awards at the inaugural Newcastle ABC Music Awards for Best Female Vocalist and Best Jazz Song for I've Thrown My List Away.

Over the last 10 years Julie has developed her passion for Jazz music, forming her own jazz quartet and performing with the 18-piece Dungeon Big Band, featuring on their Strike Up the Dungeon Big Band CD released in 2007 and also on the Live at the Dungeon CD.

Julie's repertoire covers a range of jazz standards from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday and Peggy Lee through to more contemporary material from Nora Jones, K D Lang and Eva Cassidy.

As well as delivering crowd-stopping ballads, Julie's performances are flavored with swing & latin feels, and spiced with New Orleans second-line grooves, giving her shows a unique blend of rhythm, melody and improvisation.

Julie is also in demand as a session singer, regularly contributing to CDs & demos by local artists and jingles for radio and TV.
